SACRAMENTO, Calif., December 29, 2025 (VSNewsNetwork.com) - The Office of Governor Gavin Newsom released a year-end roundup detailing actions it said California took in 2025 across health care affordability, housing and permitting, education programs, public safety, climate initiatives, and disaster response.
The roundup listed health-related actions including CalRx insulin priced at $11, CalRx naloxone pricing changes, pharmacy benefit manager reforms, and behavioral health investments tied to Proposition 1, including new residential and outpatient capacity.
On education and workforce efforts, the office cited statewide implementation of transitional kindergarten, continued free school meals for public school students, community schools grants, the Golden State Literacy Plan, and apprenticeship funding aimed at job training pathways.
The office also described housing and infrastructure actions that included CEQA-related permitting changes, steps tied to transit-oriented housing, and state-supported affordable housing and transportation funding through Cap-and-Invest.
Disaster response and recovery items in the roundup included executive orders and funding related to Los Angeles-area firestorms, debris removal and cleanup actions, temporary housing measures, tax relief steps, and a $125 million mortgage forbearance fund. The office also referenced restrictions aimed at addressing price gouging during recovery.
On climate and energy, the roundup cited actions involving Cap-and-Invest through 2045, regional electricity market participation, clean energy storage growth, zero-emission vehicle sales, and methane monitoring initiatives. The office also referenced expanded vegetation management and prescribed burns, and the launch of a CalHeatScore tool for heat-risk awareness.
The roundup included statements from Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
“As this year comes to a close, I’m proud to serve and lead a state that continues to set the pace — expanding affordability, driving innovation, and standing tall on the global stage. And as we enter the new year, the Golden State will keep fighting for every Californian,” said Governor Gavin Newsom.
“2025 was a year of strong progress for California – from establishing nation-leading AI guardrails to protect women and children to advancing access to women’s health care to ensuring continued healthy, free school meals, we focused on driving a better future for all and showed up for one another in the process. In 2026, we are committed to turning this progress into lasting change for the Golden State,” said First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
