SÃO PAULO, Brazil, November 10, 2025 (CALIFORNIA NEWS TODAY) — California Governor Gavin Newsom began his visit to Brazil for the COP30 climate conference by outlining the state’s approach to linking climate action with economic growth.

During a discussion at the Milken Institute Global Investors’ Symposium with CEO Rich Ditizio, Newsom highlighted California’s role as an example of how climate action and economic growth can advance together. The event brought together global financial and business leaders to discuss clean energy investment, sustainable manufacturing, and strategies for long-term economic development.

Following the discussion, Newsom participated in a roundtable with leading climate investors and private-sector partners, hosted in collaboration with the Milken Institute and supported by Amcham Brasil. The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships for clean energy expansion and climate innovation across the Americas.

“California is proving that climate action, business growth, supporting workers, and good-paying jobs go hand in hand,” said Newsom.

The Governor will continue his trip in Belém, where he is scheduled to join climate leaders at COP30 as Co-Chair of America Is All In and the U.S. Climate Alliance. His itinerary includes delivering remarks, participating in discussions with Paris Agreement architect Christiana Figueres, and meeting with Indigenous leaders and community organizations in the Amazon to advance nature-based climate solutions.

According to the state’s data, California’s greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 21% since 2000 while its GDP has increased by 81%. In 2023, two-thirds of the state’s energy came from clean sources, with California also reaching 100% clean electricity for part of the day on multiple occasions throughout the year. The state has increased battery storage capacity to over 15,000 megawatts since the beginning of the Newsom administration — a 1,944% rise — contributing to its goal of achieving 100% clean electricity by 2045.

COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, marks ten years since the signing of the Paris Agreement and focuses on transitioning from ambition to action. California’s delegation includes several state officials, including Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot, Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross, Public Utilities Commission President Alice Reynolds, Air Resources Board Chair Lauren Sanchez, and Tribal Affairs Secretary Christina Snider-Ashtari.
